Tips for Sharing Custody on Halloween
Parents love to spend the holiday of Halloween with their children making memories together. However, parents who are divorced may not get to do this every year with their child. This is because their parenting time agreement may not allow them to have time on this particular day. In the event that parents are unable to agree regarding how to spend Halloween with their children, there are ways this matter can be handled that work for both parents. This can include the following:
- Share the night. Parents may be able to agree upon a plan that allows them both to spend the night of Halloween with their child. This may be if they split the night into shifts or put aside their differences to spend the night together with their child.
- Other Halloween events. Halloween has become somewhat of its own season over the years. The days and weeks leading up to it often include various activities for families to participate in. If one parent does not have parenting time on Halloween, they can take them to other events when they do have time. This can include pumpkin patches, early trick-or-treating events, fall activities, etc.
- Alternate years. Parents cannot always split the night of Halloween with a co-parent. However, they may be able to switch on and off every year instead. Doing so allows each parent the chance to spend the holiday with their child, even if it is not every year.
- Adult parties. Children are not the only ones who participate in Halloween. Many adults dress up and celebrate as well. Oftentimes, these activities include alcohol. During these celebrations, it is important to be conscious of behavior and what is posted on social media. This is because it can possibly damage a custody agreement.
